Alexander Higgins tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Murilo Toscano in the 11th minute of play forced Scotland's goalkeeper Alexander Higgins to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 15 minutes into the match, Scotland's goal looked a bit too open when José Durães came free, but Alexander Higgins reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Sporting Vila Facaia's Albérico Aires played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Zac O'Donnell in the 23rd minute of play. The supporters of Scotland booed when Sporting Vila Facaia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 24 match minutes in a wonderful position. Flávio Prada didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a rather tough play, Scotland's Ashton Nelson got a free kick in the 39th minute. Scotland's Alexander Higgins played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Flávio Prada in the 42nd minute of play. Albérico Aires showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Zac O'Donnell in the 44th minute of the match. With 46 minutes on the clock, Robert McNeill commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. In the 45th minute, one of Scotland:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Scotland.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Alcides Pacheco to make the kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 54th minute, Ashton Nelson managed to get in a good position for a shot. Scotland's supporters rose to their feet, but Ashton Nelson was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Albérico Aires breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After having played for 55 minutes, Fletcher Main managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Scotland's supporters crossed their fingers, but Fletcher Main was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Albérico Aires stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Fletcher Main's shot from short distance in the 58th minute. Scotland's Alexander Higgins proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 60th minute of the match, managed to save Scotland from getting a goal against them. Albérico Aires took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Fletcher Main, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Fletcher Main struck a weak shot in the 85th minute. Albérico Aires didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Scotland. Flávio Prada could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 90th minute of the match, but Alexander Higgins made a huge save.
