Gijsbert ter Kruimer might have been able to make a better finish in the 21st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Buğrahan Ufki. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Gijsbert ter Kruimer ran back to his position shaking his head. Lars Meesters hit a great freekick 23 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alfred Rasialdo in the 25th minute of play forced Netherlands's goalkeeper Arnout Reekers to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the match clock showed 31 minutes, the score became 0-1 when Bolko Julius sped through Netherlands's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Arnout Reekers. David Eikelkamp fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 34th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Buğrahan Ufki having to interfere. Despite this Buğrahan Ufki quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Bolko Julius to strike the kick off in the second half.
