When Karl-Axel Dalström fell near the penalty area in the 2nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Djurgården United's protests and gave Karl-Axel Dalström a yellow card for diving instead. Bertil Lindholm blasted a shot towards the goal in the 24th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Fabio Auer having to make a save. 25 minutes into the match, Lucas Willig notched a goal, 0-2, to the right of Austria's Fabio Auer. Fabio Auer was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After 31 minutes, Lucas Willig made it 0-3 with a short kick to the right side. Austria's Fabio Auer tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. After a defensive mix-up in Austria's zone, Sonny Njurenius stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Fabio Auer came out of the goal and Sonny Njurenius tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to Austria getting a freekick after 40 minutes play. Marvin Harrer hit a great ball. 41 minutes into the match, Lucas Willig had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Fabio Auer. Austria's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Lucas Willig was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-5. If Bertil Lindholm had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After the first half Djurgården United were leading 0-5. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Sandro Galishoff was the one to do the kick off. A collision led to Djurgården United getting a freekick after 54 minutes play. Egon Månsson hit a great ball. 58 minutes into the match, Djurgården United's goal looked a bit too open when Jonas Nalder came free, but Karl-Åke Qvalfeldt reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 59th minute of the match Austria got a corner. Djurgården United's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Fabio Auer came out of the goal and Bertil Lindholm tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Bertil Lindholm sent away a hard shot on goal in the 65th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some fancy dribbling in the 68th minute, Lucas Willig managed to get in a good position for a shot. Djurgården United's supporters rose to their feet, but Lucas Willig was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Fabio Auer breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Fabio Auer made an important save on a dangerous shot by Sonny Njurenius in the 78th minute. After 79 played minutes Austria got a freekick which was hit by Leonhard Maier. Bertil Lindholm sent away a hard shot on goal in the 83rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 84 minutes into the match, Bertil Lindholm notched a goal, 1-6, to the right of Austria's Fabio Auer. Fabio Auer was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Austria's defense didn't have a chance, in the 94th minute, when Bertil Lindholm scored to the left of an out of position Fabio Auer, making the score, 1-7. The Austria fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Djurgården United were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
