But to his dismay, Andreas Sandell quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. Belgium's Floris Claeys managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Karl Hedvall in the 23 minute of the game. Edward Vanderstraeten took the ball and in the 25 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Hampus Gallberg. Hampus Gallberg dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. Casper Claes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tor Olofsson, who was totally free with the ball in the 28th minute. After 31 minutes of play, Belgium's Edward Vanderstraeten made it 1-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Marcus Nilsson was slow to take the kick. During this time Mansfield Town FC's players had a chance to rest. Casper Claes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Maximilian Seger, who was totally free with the ball in the 40th minute. Tobias Bern struck a weak shot in the 42nd minute. Casper Claes didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Mansfield Town FC. Maximilian Seger sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Disappointed in the 1-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Edward Vanderstraeten to make the kick off.
