Dietbald Ströbele made an important save on a dangerous shot by Edward Vanderstraeten in the 3rd minute. In the 4th minute the ball was on its way in behind Belgium's goalkeeper Casper Claes, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eusebius Smolarek in the 5th minute of play forced Belgium's goalkeeper Casper Claes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 6th minute, Edward Vanderstraeten left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Belgium fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. Belgium's Casper Claes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Junior Shevchenko in the 9th minute of play. 14 minutes into the match, Belgium's goal looked a bit too open when Junior Shevchenko came free, but Casper Claes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Edward Vanderstraeten's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Dietbald Ströbele firmly grabbed it by the left post. In the 33rd minute Junior Shevchenko shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Casper Claes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Edward Vanderstraeten got free with Dietbald Ströbele in the 34th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Dietbald Ströbele came out of the goal in the 36th minute to try and stop a shot by Belgium's Edward Vanderstraeten. But to his dismay, Edward Vanderstraeten quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-0. Edward Vanderstraeten blasted a shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Dietbald Ströbele having to make a save. Casper Claes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Junior Shevchenko, who was totally free with the ball in the 44th minute. Naycho Mollov hit a great freekick 45 minutes into the match. After 46 minutes of play, Belgium's Edward Vanderstraeten made it 4-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Dietbald Ströbele was left in no man's land by his defense there! Af the end of the first half the score was 4-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Laurens Vandamme kicked well hit freekick during the 63rd minute of the match. After 64 played minutes Belgium got a freekick which was hit by Sander Dermaut. After having played for 69 minutes, Edward Vanderstraeten managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Belgium's supporters crossed their fingers, but Edward Vanderstraeten was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 73 minutes into the match, Manchester United FC's goal looked a bit too open when Edward Vanderstraeten came free, but Dietbald Ströbele reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Edward Vanderstraeten sent away a hard shot on goal in the 78th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Yves Dervaux received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 80th minute. Dietbald Ströbele tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Belgium's Casper Claes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Eusebius Smolarek in the 82nd minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ed 冯义升 got free with Casper Claes in the 88th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Dietbald Ströbele showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Yves Dervaux, who was totally free with the ball in the 91st minute. Casper Claes made a fantastic save in the 98th minute, when Junior Shevchenko sent off a good shot on target. Belgium walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
