The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Portugal's Wilson Amorim played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Andrzej Budzyn in the 9th minute of play. With a little luck, Portugal's Wilson Amorim got control of the ball when Andrzej Budzyn tried to sneak it across the goal line. Apostolis Arvanitoyannis scored 2-2 in the 61st match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Wilson Amorim, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Felipinho Amorim's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Brak Gola read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 89th minute of play. In the 95th minute of the match, Ruud van Nistelrooij got a very nice opportunity to score, but Wilson Amorim was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. The Portugal fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Underdogs were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
