If Ömer Demirci had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 5th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ömer Demirci got free with Flavio Vittori in the 5th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 7 minutes into the game, Sigfrido Auletta cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Şemsettin Tuyuğ was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. 12 minutes into the game, KOCAELİSPOR's Ömer Demirci nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Flavio Vittori made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. KOCAELİSPOR's Ediz Tekdoğan quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Porziano Marchitelli, made in the 26th minute of the game. A very good chance. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-1 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Ömer Demirci to make the kick off. In the 93rd minute, Zena Busacca hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Peng Yang Guang came up free with the goalie in the 94th minute, the KOCAELİSPOR fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Peng Yang Guang couldn't finish the play. Many of Italy's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. Italy may have spent more time on the ball, but KOCAELİSPOR were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
