He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Edvin Jonsson. Gijsbert ter Kruimer succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 1-2 in the 76th playminute. In the 79th minute, Wim Wilmes got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Edvin Jonsson came out and tried to block the shot, but Wim Wilmes slotted it home off the left post making it 1-3 in the 94th minute. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Netherlands had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
