One of Netherlands:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Valencia C.F.:s goal. Joe Herring could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 21st minute of the match, but Arnout Reekers made a huge save. A collision led to Valencia C.F. getting a freekick after 21 minutes play. Len Forrest hit a great ball. Jerry Lodge showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Wim Wilmes in the 23rd minute of the match. Jerry Lodge took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. José Luis Gayà hit a great freekick 32 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 33rd minute, Wim Wilmes managed to get in a good position for a shot. Netherlands's supporters rose to their feet, but Wim Wilmes was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jerry Lodge breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Lance Fairfax received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Arnout Reekers tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Valencia C.F.'s José Luis Gayà managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Mathijn Doctor in the 39 minute of the game. The supporters of Netherlands booed when Valencia C.F. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 40 match minutes in a wonderful position. Joe Herring didn't get a good kick on the ball. Jerry Lodge showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lars Meesters, who was totally free with the ball in the 41st minute. 45 minutes into the game, Valencia C.F.'s Joe Herring nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Arnout Reekers made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-1. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Wim Wilmes ran back to his position shaking his head. Netherlands's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Man Tas was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-2. 80 minutes into the match, Man Tas notched a goal, 4-2, to the right of Netherlands's Arnout Reekers. Arnout Reekers was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 83 minutes into the match, Netherlands's goal looked a bit too open when Man Tas came free, but Arnout Reekers reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. José Luis Gayà kicked well hit freekick during the 84th minute of the match. Jerry Lodge was out of position in the 86 minute of play, and Gustaaf Groeneveldt capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Gustaaf Groeneveldt really showed his touch with that goal: 4-3. Gustaaf Groeneveldt could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 90th minute of the match, but Jerry Lodge made a huge save. In the 93rd minute, Netherlands's Gustaaf Groeneveldt ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Jerry Lodge. Jerry Lodge yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 4-4.
