In the 15th minute Lars Meesters shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jerry Lodge saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Lars Meesters hit a great freekick 22 minutes into the match. In the 28th minute Gustaaf Groeneveldt shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jerry Lodge saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Gijsbert ter Kruimer to make the kick off. 52 minutes into the match, Valencia C.F.'s goalkeeper Jerry Lodge had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Wim Wilmes. After 53 played minutes Valencia C.F. got a freekick which was hit by José Luis Gayà. With a little luck, Valencia C.F.'s Jerry Lodge got control of the ball when Gustaaf Groeneveldt tried to sneak it across the goal line. 56 minutes had been played when some careless play by Valencia C.F.'s defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Gijsbert ter Kruimer was slow to take the kick. During this time Netherlands's players had a chance to rest. Jerry Lodge showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Wim Wilmes in the 58th minute of the match. Valencia C.F.'s José Luis Gayà quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Gust Ennemans, made in the 60th minute of the game. Joe Herring might have been able to make a better finish in the 61st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Arnout Reekers. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Joe Herring ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 67th match minute, Netherlands was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gust Ennemans to maneuver through the defense. Valencia C.F.'s Wes Case was substituted for Alfred Claydon. The supporters of Valencia C.F. booed when Netherlands was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 68 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gust Ennemans didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a rather tough play, Valencia C.F.'s Lance Fairfax got a free kick in the 72nd minute. Valencia C.F.'s José Luis Gayà quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Mathijn Doctor, made in the 77th minute of the game. Gustaaf Groeneveldt could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 79th minute of the match, but Jerry Lodge made a huge save. Thanks to some nice moves Gustaaf Groeneveldt could shoot a difficult shot in the 80th minute, which Jerry Lodge however easily saved by the left post. Arnout Reekers took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Man Tas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 90 played minutes Netherlands got a freekick which was hit by Gust Ennemans. Arnout Reekers showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Man Tas in the 94th minute of the match. The Valencia C.F. support was delighted with a win in a match that could easily have ended differently.
