Vintilă Ghițulescu's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Tommy Kahn read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 17th minute of play. In the 42ndth minute of the game Frank Sachs who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Sporting Burgas's Álvaro Perpiñán was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Davor Šuker recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 44th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 47th minute, Vintilă Ghițulescu ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Tommy Kahn was frozen by the shot and now it was 4-0. Af the end of the first half the score was 4-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

After 52 minutes of play, Sporting Burgas's Cedro Pantoja made it 5-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Tommy Kahn was left in no man's land by his defense there! Frank Sachs might have been able to make a better finish in the 56th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Álvaro Perpiñán. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Frank Sachs ran back to his position shaking his head. Frank Sachs sent away a hard shot on goal in the 58th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 60 minutes into the match, Germany's goal looked a bit too open when Davor Šuker came free, but Tommy Kahn reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Frank Sachs could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 63rd minute of the match, but Álvaro Perpiñán made a huge save. Tommy Kahn showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cedro Pantoja in the 64th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Germany's Albin Holweck got a free kick in the 65th minute. In the 68th minute Frank Sachs shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Álvaro Perpiñán saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 72nd minute, Frank Sachs got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 75th minute Frank Sachs shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Álvaro Perpiñán saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After having played for 76 minutes, Frank Sachs managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Germany's supporters crossed their fingers, but Frank Sachs was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Seve Sevilla hit a great freekick 77 minutes into the match. In the 85th minute of the match Davor Šuker sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Tommy Kahn skillfully saved the ball. When Frank Sachs came up free with the goalie in the 87th minute, the Germany fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Frank Sachs couldn't finish the play. If Frank Sachs had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Sporting Burgas had played much better football throughout.
