Gijsbert ter Kruimer was slow to take the kick. During this time Netherlands's players had a chance to rest. The corner went over the outstretched arms of FC Anderlecht Huachipato's goalie and right to Lars Meesters. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. FC Anderlecht Huachipato's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. FC Anderlecht Huachipato's Vitaliy Fedchenko quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. Through an outstanding action, after 43 minutes, Arnout Reekers successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.
