The referee ignored IGUIPORÃ FC's protests and gave Zé Carlos Velasco a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to IGUIPORÃ FC getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. Zé Carlos Velasco hit a great ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Adrian Dreifuss during the 16th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After some careless play in the Germany defense, Eric Hjortsberg kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Tommy Kahn. The Germany fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Tommy Kahn should have stopped the shot. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 4-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Frank Sachs to make the kick off.
