With an all-out effort, Netherlands's Mikolaj Jerzyk threw himself towards the right post 2 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Gijsbert ter Kruimer, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. An unexpectedly hard shot by Thomas Vollmar in the 5th minute of play forced Netherlands's goalkeeper Arnout Reekers to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. David Eikelkamp recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 7th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 9th minute, Egbert Nijveldt hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Zé Paulo Zonta took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 10th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Arnout Reekers. Netherlands's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. David Eikelkamp kicked well hit freekick during the 12th minute of the match. Gustaaf Groeneveldt received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 16th minute. Mikolaj Jerzyk tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Kajetan Kochniarczyk blasted a shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Arnout Reekers having to make a save. Arnout Reekers made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Adam Pacholewski in the 18th minute of play. A collision led to Newcastle United getting a freekick after 20 minutes play. Kajetan Kochniarczyk hit a great ball. Arnout Reekers showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Marian Erland in the 28th minute of the match. 31 minutes into the match, Thomas Vollmar had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Arnout Reekers. Netherlands's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Thomas Vollmar was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Thomas Vollmar in the 33rd minute of play forced Netherlands's goalkeeper Arnout Reekers to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 39th minute, Gustaaf Groeneveldt managed to get in a good position for a shot. Netherlands's supporters rose to their feet, but Gustaaf Groeneveldt was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Mikolaj Jerzyk breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Gustaaf Groeneveldt struck a weak shot in the 42nd minute. Mikolaj Jerzyk didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Netherlands. In the 45th minute, Thomas Vollmar ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Arnout Reekers was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. After the first half Newcastle United were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Thomas Vollmar to strike the kick off in the second half. Arnout Reekers made an important save on a dangerous shot by Adam Pacholewski in the 52nd minute. Gustaaf Groeneveldt sent away a hard shot on goal in the 53rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Mikolaj Jerzyk made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gustaaf Groeneveldt in the 64th minute of play. Newcastle United's Mikolaj Jerzyk played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lars Meesters in the 68th minute of play. If Gustaaf Groeneveldt had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Mikolaj Jerzyk made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gustaaf Groeneveldt in the 74th minute of play. David Eikelkamp kicked well hit freekick during the 75th minute of the match. If Thomas Vollmar had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 78 minutes into the match, Newcastle United's goal looked a bit too open when Gustaaf Groeneveldt came free, but Mikolaj Jerzyk reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to Newcastle United getting a freekick after 79 minutes play. Tadeusz Pstrongowski hit a great ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Marian Erland got free with Arnout Reekers in the 84th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gustaaf Groeneveldt in the 87th minute of play forced Newcastle United's goalkeeper Mikolaj Jerzyk to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Arnout Reekers made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Thomas Vollmar in the 90th minute of play. The supporters of Newcastle United booed when Netherlands was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 92 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lars Meesters didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some careless play in the Newcastle United defense, Gustaaf Groeneveldt kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Mikolaj Jerzyk. The Newcastle United fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Mikolaj Jerzyk should have stopped the shot. The Newcastle United supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Newcastle United would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
