The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Zaccheo Andolina's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Carsten Eckstein read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 13th minute of play. 20 minutes into the match, Italy's goal looked a bit too open when Nils-Åke Wickander came free, but Flavio Vittori reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Flavio Vittori took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nils-Åke Wickander, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Porziano Marchitelli fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Carsten Eckstein having to interfere. The throw-in from Ralf Björk in the 29th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Italy's Siricio Liotta. If Siricio Liotta had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rikard Wolff in the 36th minute of play forced Italy's goalkeeper Flavio Vittori to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Porziano Marchitelli could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 39th minute of the match, but Carsten Eckstein made a huge save. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Zaccheo Andolina was the one to do the kick off. Siricio Liotta scored 1-0 in the 51st match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Carsten Eckstein, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The Real Södertälje fans' excitement grew in the 54th match minute when Real Södertälje's Rikard Wolff looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Italy's Flavio Vittori proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 65th minute of the match, managed to save Italy from getting a goal against them. Nils-Åke Wickander who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 66thth minute tested the skills of Flavio Vittori when he managed to save the team from getting behind. 70 minutes into the match, Real Södertälje's goal looked a bit too open when Sigfrido Auletta came free, but Carsten Eckstein reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Carsten Eckstein showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Zaccheo Andolina in the 76th minute of the match. When Yu Feng Ning fell near the penalty area in the 77th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Real Södertälje's protests and gave Yu Feng Ning a yellow card for diving instead. Yu Feng Ning kicked well hit freekick during the 77th minute of the match. Real Södertälje made a substitution. Bennvar Nickler replaced Rikard Wolff. Real Södertälje's Jakob Källberg was substituted for Birger Hedberg. Real Södertälje's Evelio Rico was substituted for Nils-Åke Wickander. The supporters of Italy booed when Real Södertälje was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 79 match minutes in a wonderful position. Yu Feng Ning didn't get a good kick on the ball. Bennvar Nickler could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 81st minute of the match, but Flavio Vittori made a huge save. Italy's Sansone Vanella was substituted for Gianpaolo Mascari. With his leg Flavio Vittori managed to avoid a goal in the 90thth minute, when Real Södertälje's Bennvar Nickler fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. In the 93rd minute, Bennvar Nickler reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Flavio Vittori. The goal made the score 1-2. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Real Södertälje walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
