Thanks to some nice moves Gustaaf Groeneveldt could shoot a difficult shot in the 19th minute, which Samuel Maties however easily saved by the left post. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Arnout Reekers prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The audience thought a goal was coming when Gustaaf Groeneveldt got free with Samuel Maties in the 34th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Arnout Reekers made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from 许岚彬 in the 41st minute of play. When Gustaaf Groeneveldt fell near the penalty area in the 45th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Netherlands's protests and gave Gustaaf Groeneveldt a yellow card for diving instead. In the 45th match minute, Netherlands was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gustaaf Groeneveldt to maneuver through the defense. If Wim Wilmes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
