The supporters of Italy booed when Brugge United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 19 match minutes in a wonderful position. Will Deman didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 21 minutes of play, Italy's Zaccheo Andolina made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Vítor Baia was left in no man's land by his defense there! A collision led to Italy getting a freekick after 25 minutes play. Sostene Vitulli hit a great ball. 33 minutes into the match, Brugge United's goal looked a bit too open when Zaccheo Andolina came free, but Vítor Baia reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Deodato Magliozzi got a throw-in 35 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Porziano Marchitelli. If Sigfrido Auletta had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 38 minutes in the game Will Deman did a throw-in, and the ball was quickly in game thanks to Guido Vissenaeken. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ümit Karan in the 39th minute of play forced Italy's goalkeeper Flavio Vittori to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 41 minutes had been played when some careless play by Italy's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Jaspar Van Den Broeck was slow to take the kick. During this time Brugge United's players had a chance to rest. The corner led Brugge United's Jaspar Van Den Broeck to fire away a dangerous shot which Flavio Vittori despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Porziano Marchitelli scored 0-3 in the 44th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Vítor Baia, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After the first half Italy were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Zaccheo Andolina to strike the kick off in the second half. After a defensive mix-up in Italy's zone, Guido Vissenaeken stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Flavio Vittori came out of the goal and Guido Vissenaeken tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Brugge United made a substitution. Waud Huijbrechts replaced Jaspar Van Den Broeck. Arnauld Van Impe might have been able to make a better finish in the 64th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Flavio Vittori. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Arnauld Van Impe ran back to his position shaking his head. Brugge United's Vítor Baia proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 66th minute of the match, managed to save Brugge United from getting a goal against them. Arnauld Van Impe sent away a hard shot on goal in the 68th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 69 minutes into the match, Italy's goal looked a bit too open when Arnauld Van Impe came free, but Flavio Vittori reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 95 played minutes Brugge United got a freekick which was hit by Ümit Karan. 96 minutes into the match, Brugge United's goalkeeper Vítor Baia had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Adriano Curto.
