Arnout Reekers made a fantastic save in the 21st minute, when Francesco Totti sent off a good shot on target. Celedonio Dominguez took the ball and in the 24 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Arnout Reekers. Arnout Reekers dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-2. Gustaaf Groeneveldt struck a weak shot in the 27th minute. Holger Vester didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Netherlands. Arnout Reekers took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Celedonio Dominguez, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Holger Vester showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. Hammarby IF's Holger Vester played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 38th minute of play. In the 60th minute, Gustaaf Groeneveldt reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Holger Vester. The goal made the score 1-3. Hammarby IF made a substitution. Anders Lindblom replaced Bo-Erik Wallin. After 64 played minutes Netherlands got a freekick which was hit by David Eikelkamp. In the 67th minute, Gustaaf Groeneveldt ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Holger Vester was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-4. 72 minutes into the game, Wim Wilmes recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Holger Vester. Wim Wilmes showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-5. 75 minutes into the match, Hammarby IF's goal looked a bit too open when Lars Meesters came free, but Holger Vester reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 75thth minute of the game Lars Meesters who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Hammarby IF's Holger Vester was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Netherlands's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
