Fodor Daniel made a fantastic save in the 4th minute, when Pankracy Malicki sent off a good shot on target. Antal Valentin received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 5th minute. Mikolaj Jerzyk tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 6 minutes into the match, Hungary's goal looked a bit too open when Adam Pacholewski came free, but Fodor Daniel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Hungary booed when Newcastle United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 7 match minutes in a wonderful position. Julian Obuchowicz didn't get a good kick on the ball. 14 minutes into the game, Adam Pacholewski cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Fodor Daniel was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Major Barna fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mikolaj Jerzyk having to interfere. Newcastle United's Pankracy Malicki got a good chance for a goal in the 20th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 22nd match minute, Hungary was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hegedus Henrik to maneuver through the defense. Mikolaj Jerzyk showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Antal Valentin in the 25th minute of the match. Major Barna sent away a hard shot on goal in the 26th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Antal Valentin in the 28th minute of play forced Newcastle United's goalkeeper Mikolaj Jerzyk to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Thomas Vollmar could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 29th minute of the match, but Fodor Daniel made a huge save. Newcastle United's Zé Paulo Zonta shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 31st minute of play. The shot was stopped by Fodor Daniel but with some difficulty. After having played for 32 minutes, Antal Valentin managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Hungary's supporters crossed their fingers, but Antal Valentin was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Kajetan Kochniarczyk hit a great freekick 33 minutes into the match. Antal Valentin sent away a hard shot on goal in the 34th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 36 minutes into the match, Hungary's Antal Valentin broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. Pankracy Malicki kicked well hit freekick during the 44th minute of the match. In the 45th minute, Marian Erland hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 48 played minutes Hungary got a freekick which was hit by Katona Janos. When Zé Paulo Zonta came up free with the goalie in the 48th minute, the Newcastle United fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Zé Paulo Zonta couldn't finish the play. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Antal Valentin stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Fodor Daniel breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Hungary's Fodor Daniel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Thomas Vollmar in the 62nd minute of play. Hegedus Henrik hit a great freekick 68 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Thomas Vollmar in the 70th minute of play forced Hungary's goalkeeper Fodor Daniel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 71st minute Thomas Vollmar shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fodor Daniel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Newcastle United's Olgierd Wojtowicz got a free kick in the 72nd minute. Mikolaj Jerzyk was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 73rd minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Antal Valentin. Major Barna could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 96th minute of the match, but Mikolaj Jerzyk made a huge save. The Newcastle United players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
