The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Miguel Almiron struck a weak shot in the 5th minute. The supporters of Portugal booed when Sacro Balompié was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 79 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gaudencio Santos didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some careless play in the Portugal defense, Miguel Almiron kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Wilson Amorim. The Portugal fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Wilson Amorim should have stopped the shot. Wilson Amorim showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tomás Sabin, who was totally free with the ball in the 86th minute. Bonifacio Cedro hit a great freekick 87 minutes into the match. Portugal's Wilson Amorim played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Matias Maties in the 90th minute of play. Sacro Balompié's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
