José Vítor Netto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bertram Svenningsen in the 10th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Chris Nygaard in the 12th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg José Vítor Netto saved Botafogo MZRJ from getting behind. Jailson Capixaba received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Keld Paulsen came out and tried to block the shot, but Jailson Capixaba slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 14th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Denmark's zone, Jailson Capixaba stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Keld Paulsen came out of the goal and Jailson Capixaba tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 2-0 became the score in the 21st minute when Jailson Capixaba elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. Lars Steen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 26th minute. José Vítor Netto tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Alberto Novaes fell near the penalty area in the 27th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Botafogo MZRJ's protests and gave Alberto Novaes a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Botafogo MZRJ getting a freekick after 27 minutes play. Alberto Novaes hit a great ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Silas Lara during the 34th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Botafogo MZRJ's José Vítor Netto played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Chris Nygaard in the 35th minute of play. José Vítor Netto showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Chris Nygaard, who was totally free with the ball in the 42nd minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Chris Nygaard in the 44th minute of play forced Botafogo MZRJ's goalkeeper José Vítor Netto to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Jailson Capixaba received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 46th minute. Keld Paulsen tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-1 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Jailson Capixaba stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 55th minute, Denmark's Chris Nygaard dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 2-2. 62 minutes into the match, Bertram Svenningsen had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of José Vítor Netto. Botafogo MZRJ's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Bertram Svenningsen was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-3. In the 65th match minute, Botafogo MZRJ was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alberto Novaes to maneuver through the defense. In the 67th match minute, Denmark was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mathias Ludvigsen to maneuver through the defense. With a little luck, Botafogo MZRJ's José Vítor Netto got control of the ball when Bertram Svenningsen tried to sneak it across the goal line. Botafogo MZRJ's Gilmar Couto was substituted for Jailson Capixaba. When Denmark's Chris Nygaard in 80 game minutes managed to cut through with the ball in front of the goal, only having to shoot. José Vítor Netto guarding the goal like a pit bull was extremely focused and managed to reach the ball just by the crossbar before it went in. With an all-out effort, Denmark's José Vítor Netto threw himself towards the right post 85 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Mikkel Wulff, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. If Isaltino Gomes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 88th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Botafogo MZRJ succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though Denmark had controlled the match.
