In the 5th minute of the match Austria got a corner. Sorci Viola's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Sandro Galishoff ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner ended in Sandro Galishoff almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Sorci Viola's Fortunato Pizziolo did a great save. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ernesto Caniglia got free with Fabio Auer in the 7th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The supporters of Sorci Viola booed when Austria was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 8 match minutes in a wonderful position. Emil Seidler didn't get a good kick on the ball. Jonas Nalder fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 10th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fortunato Pizziolo having to interfere. After 11 minutes, Alex Fini mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Sorci Viola and the Austria players grew even worse after the yellow card. Alex Fini hit a great freekick 11 minutes into the match. If Aldo Lucchetti had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 22nd minute Sandro Galishoff shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fortunato Pizziolo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Fortunato Pizziolo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sandro Galishoff in the 27th minute of play. Sorci Viola's Ferruccio Cordone was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 29th play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. If Fabio Schneider had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 35 minutes into the game, Nico Waismann was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Austria's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Sorci Viola the free kick. In the 37th minute, Ernesto Caniglia fired a really elegant long shot, but Fabio Auer threw himself and managed to get hold of the ball just in front of the right post. Fabio Auer made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ferruccio Cordone in the 39th minute of play. Jonas Nalder struck a weak shot in the 41st minute. Fortunato Pizziolo didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Austria.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Ernesto Caniglia to make the kick off. Sorci Viola's Ernesto Caniglia got a good chance for a goal in the 52nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Aldo Lucchetti had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Fortunato Pizziolo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Fabio Schneider, who was totally free with the ball in the 57th minute. In the 59th minute, Ferruccio Cordone made a precise shot to the right of Fabio Auer. Austria's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-0. 65 minutes into the match, Aldo Lucchetti had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Fabio Auer. Austria's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Aldo Lucchetti was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-0. When Fabio Schneider came up free with the goalie in the 68th minute, the Austria fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Fabio Schneider couldn't finish the play. Fabio Schneider sent away a hard shot on goal in the 79th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. It looked like a certain goal, but the audience witnessed a really smashing save by Fortunato Pizziolo when he caught the ball only just under the crossbar. When Fabio Schneider came up free with the goalie in the 95th minute, the Austria fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Fabio Schneider couldn't finish the play. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Sorci Viola fans cheered their team off the field, for while Austria had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
