After having played for 40 minutes, Felipe Barreto managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Portugal's supporters crossed their fingers, but Felipe Barreto was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 43rd minute, Caetano Moreira left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Portugal fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. 47 minutes into the match, Portugal's goalkeeper Wilson Amorim had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Gustavo Scarpa. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-2.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Viriato Moura was the one to do the kick off. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Gustavo Scarpa in the 54th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Wilson Amorim prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The referee felt a red card was in order, 59 minutes into the game, when Mai Chuan put in a rough tackle. Mai Chuan kicked well hit freekick during the 60th minute of the match. Fabricio Andrade could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 61st minute of the match, but João Carlos Lucas made a huge save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nilmar de Souza in the 67th minute of play forced Portugal's goalkeeper Wilson Amorim to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 81st minute, Portugal's Daniel Pimentel dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-4. Nilmar de Souza's late challenge caught a Portugal's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Nilmar de Souza helped the player get up and apologised. The audience thought a goal was coming when Graciano Coutinho got free with João Carlos Lucas in the 93rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The Portugal supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Portugal would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
