Régis de Queirós showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wim Wilmes, who was totally free with the ball in the 3rd minute. Luiz Fabiano Passos hit a great freekick 5 minutes into the match. 14 minutes into the match, Netherlands's goalkeeper Arnout Reekers had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Tarcisio Reis. Palmeiras's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Tarcisio Reis in the 15th minute. Régis de Queirós showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer, who was totally free with the ball in the 19th minute. Palmeiras's Régis de Queirós played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gustaaf Groeneveldt in the 21st minute of play. In the 23rd minute, Gustaaf Groeneveldt got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 26 minutes into the match, Palmeiras's goal looked a bit too open when Wim Wilmes came free, but Régis de Queirós reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 27 minutes into the match, Gijsbert ter Kruimer notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Palmeiras's Régis de Queirós. Régis de Queirós was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. An unexpectedly hard shot by Wim Wilmes in the 30th minute of play forced Palmeiras's goalkeeper Régis de Queirós to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Dênis Miranda hit a great freekick 31 minutes into the match. 33 minutes into the match, Palmeiras's goal looked a bit too open when Gijsbert ter Kruimer came free, but Régis de Queirós reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Gijsbert ter Kruimer came up free with the goalie in the 38th minute, the Netherlands fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Gijsbert ter Kruimer couldn't finish the play. After a rather tough play, Palmeiras's Tarcisio Reis got a free kick in the 41st minute. Gijsbert ter Kruimer received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 45th minute. Régis de Queirós tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some careless play in the Palmeiras defense, Gustaaf Groeneveldt kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Régis de Queirós. The Palmeiras fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Régis de Queirós should have stopped the shot. After the first half Netherlands were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Iustin Bungeanu made a kick off. Netherlands's Gustaaf Groeneveldt got a good chance for a goal in the 51st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. A collision led to Palmeiras getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. Iustin Bungeanu hit a great ball. In the 58th minute, Kees Mooiweer hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a defensive mix-up in Palmeiras's zone, Gustaaf Groeneveldt stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Régis de Queirós came out of the goal and Gustaaf Groeneveldt tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Wim Wilmes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 62nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Netherlands's Gijsbert ter Kruimer got a good chance for a goal in the 67th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Palmeiras's Wesley Fantini was substituted for Iustin Bungeanu. 71 minutes into the game, Palmeiras's Wesley Fantini nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Arnout Reekers made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. In the 76th minute Gijsbert ter Kruimer shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Régis de Queirós saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If David Eikelkamp had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Gustaaf Groeneveldt could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 79th minute of the match, but Régis de Queirós made a huge save. The audience thought a goal was coming when Gijsbert ter Kruimer got free with Régis de Queirós in the 84th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Régis de Queirós made a fantastic save in the 85th minute, when Gustaaf Groeneveldt sent off a good shot on target. In the 91st minute, Kees Mooiweer ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Régis de Queirós was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-3. Netherlands's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
