Hanung Sephtianda fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 16th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Wilson Amorim having to interfere. In the 24th minute, Viriato Moura left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Portugal fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. The throw-in from Erubiel Nabar in the 28th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Portugal's Raul Caetano. Frederico Hendrickx could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 30th minute of the match, but Wilson Amorim made a huge save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Frederico Hendrickx in the 33rd minute of play forced Portugal's goalkeeper Wilson Amorim to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Frederico Hendrickx's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Wilson Amorim read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 46th minute of play. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Viriato Moura to strike the kick off in the second half. The audience thought a goal was coming when Caetano Moreira got free with Ray Clemence in the 53rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Ray Clemence showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Viriato Moura in the 59th minute of the match. After 63 minutes of play, PHOENIX SC's Frederico Hendrickx made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. With a little luck, PHOENIX SC's Ray Clemence got control of the ball when Felipinho Amorim tried to sneak it across the goal line.
