Ovidio Roland was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Flavio Vittori had in the 35thth minute some difficulties stopping Honesto Valensuela's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Meder Muños's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Flavio Vittori read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 38th minute of play. Zaccheo Andolina received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Ovidio Roland came out and tried to block the shot, but Zaccheo Andolina slotted it home off the left post making it 3-1 in the 43rd minute. The goalkeeper, Ovidio Roland, was totally fooled by Italy's Sigfrido Auletta, who 47 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 4-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Zaccheo Andolina to make the kick off.
