Nilson de Almeida came out of the goal and David Eikelkamp tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 17th minute of the match, Jeremias Salles got a very nice opportunity to score, but Arnout Reekers was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nicolás De la Cruz in the 19th minute of play forced Netherlands's goalkeeper Arnout Reekers to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
