Rodolfo Miranda's late challenge caught a AFC United's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. After having played for 4 minutes, Jordi Scherz managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. AFC United's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jordi Scherz was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 4 minutes into the match, Portugal's goalkeeper Wilson Amorim had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Jordi Scherz. The audience thought a goal was coming when Andries De Putter got free with Wilson Amorim in the 6th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 11 minutes into the match, Portugal's Felipe Barreto sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Lei Bin narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The audience was convinced that Andries De Putter's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Wilson Amorim was relentless in the 17th minute of the game. If Daniel Pimentel had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 24th minute Andries De Putter shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Wilson Amorim saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 43 minutes of play, AFC United's Andries De Putter made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Wilson Amorim was left in no man's land by his defense there! No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Viriato Moura to strike the kick off in the second half. Portugal's Bruno Bastos managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Fryderyk Maurycy in the 51 minute of the game. Lei Bin made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Caetano Moreira in the 52nd minute of play. AFC United's Lei Bin proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 53rd minute of the match, managed to save AFC United from getting a goal against them. When Andries De Putter came up free with the goalie in the 91st minute, the AFC United fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Andries De Putter couldn't finish the play. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The AFC United fans cheered their team off the field, for while Portugal had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
