Arnout Reekers took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jorge Figueiredo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 15th minute Wim Wilmes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jorginho Vaz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 22nd minute Netherlands were awarded a corner. Gijsbert ter Kruimer went to the cornerflag to take it. After taking down the ball on Netherlands's corner Gijsbert ter Kruimer fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Jorginho Vaz quite easily take care of the ball. Portuguesa's Jorginho Vaz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gustaaf Groeneveldt in the 24th minute of play. In the 27th minute, Gustaaf Groeneveldt ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Jorginho Vaz was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. In the 29th minute, Gustaaf Groeneveldt left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Netherlands fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-3. Wim Wilmes who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 51stth minute tested the skills of Jorginho Vaz when he managed to save the team from getting behind. The Netherlands fans' excitement grew in the 51st match minute when Netherlands's Wim Wilmes looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-4 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Lars Meesters sent away a hard shot on goal in the 61st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 64th minute of the match Portuguesa got a corner. The referee ignored Netherlands's protests and gave Mathijn Doctor a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Portuguesa booed when Netherlands was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 77 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mathijn Doctor didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a little luck, Portuguesa's Jorginho Vaz got control of the ball when Gustaaf Groeneveldt tried to sneak it across the goal line. The audience was convinced that Gustaaf Groeneveldt's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jorginho Vaz was relentless in the 79th minute of the game. Jorginho Vaz came out of the goal in the 81st minute to try and stop a shot by Netherlands's Gijsbert ter Kruimer. But to his dismay, Gijsbert ter Kruimer quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-5. Arnout Reekers took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jorge Figueiredo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Wim Wilmes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Arnout Reekers showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from David de Alcântara in the 92nd minute of the match.
