A collision led to Olivedos getting a freekick after 3 minutes play. Luís Novaes hit a great ball. Felipe Barreto was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 3rd played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Donato Oliveira might have been able to make a better finish in the 6th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Wilson Amorim. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Donato Oliveira ran back to his position shaking his head. Abelardo Maranhense made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Viriato Moura in the 21st minute of play. Rodolfo Miranda hit a great freekick 27 minutes into the match. After a defensive mix-up in Portugal's zone, Cássio Ferraz stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Wilson Amorim came out of the goal and Cássio Ferraz tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 32nd minute Donato Oliveira shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Wilson Amorim saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a little luck, Portugal's Wilson Amorim got control of the ball when Cássio Ferraz tried to sneak it across the goal line. Abelardo Maranhense showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Viriato Moura, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. Tony Schmidt got a throw-in 46 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Cássio Ferraz. Abelardo Maranhense took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Felipe Barreto, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Donato Oliveira stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Caetano Moreira made a great header on Portugal's corner, it was just that Olivedos's Abelardo Maranhense managed to reach the ball for a save. After 92 played minutes Portugal got a freekick which was hit by Graciano Coutinho. Olivedos's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
