The supporters of Germany booed when FC Budapest was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 17 match minutes in a wonderful position. Viktor Edelényi didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 19th minute, Frank Sachs managed to get in a good position for a shot. Germany's supporters rose to their feet, but Frank Sachs was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Bálint Hellinger breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. With a little luck, Germany's Tommy Kahn got control of the ball when Miklós Fehér tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 43rd minute Frank Sachs shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bálint Hellinger saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the match clock showed 47 minutes, the score became 3-0 when Miklós Fehér sped through Germany's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Tommy Kahn.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Miklós Fehér to make the kick off. 61 minutes into the match, Germany's Frank Sachs sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Bálint Hellinger narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Germany's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Frank Sachs in the 62nd minute. Tommy Kahn was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Adrian Dreifuss's late challenge caught a FC Budapest's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Adrian Dreifuss helped the player get up and apologised. In the 90th match minute, Germany was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Adrian Dreifuss to maneuver through the defense. FC Budapest's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
