Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Gijsbert ter Kruimer to make the kick off. When Lars Meesters fell near the penalty area in the 53rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. When the referee blew the final whistle, Espirillo FC could leave the field as winners, despite Netherlands having more of the ball for most of the match.
