The audience was convinced that Terence Nicholas's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Arnout Reekers was relentless in the 4th minute of the game. A collision led to Santos FC getting a freekick after 6 minutes play. Mike Richardson hit a great ball. 9 minutes into the match, Santos FC's goal looked a bit too open when Gijsbert ter Kruimer came free, but Aaron Smallwood reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 10th minute of the match Netherlands got a corner. Santos FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Gijsbert ter Kruimer ran over to the corner to take the kick. Aaron Smallwood showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 11th minute of the match. Aaron Smallwood made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 16th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 18th minute of play forced Santos FC's goalkeeper Aaron Smallwood to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 20th minute Gijsbert ter Kruimer shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Aaron Smallwood saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 23rdth minute of the game Wim Wilmes who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Santos FC's Aaron Smallwood was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 25th minute Arturo Turner shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Arnout Reekers saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Santos FC's Arturo Turner in the 25th minute got a chance for a shot 25th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. After some careless play in the Netherlands defense, Terence Nicholas kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Arnout Reekers. The Netherlands fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Arnout Reekers should have stopped the shot. 39 minutes into the game, Lanny Gilmore recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Arnout Reekers. Lanny Gilmore showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-0. Netherlands's Arnout Reekers proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 42nd minute of the match, managed to save Netherlands from getting a goal against them. Tory Weeks could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 43rd minute of the match, but Arnout Reekers made a huge save. 44 minutes into the match, Santos FC's goal looked a bit too open when Gustaaf Groeneveldt came free, but Aaron Smallwood reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

Aaron Smallwood took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lars Meesters, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Through an outstanding action, after 56 minutes, Aaron Smallwood successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Arturo Turner in the 57th minute of play forced Netherlands's goalkeeper Arnout Reekers to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Arnout Reekers took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Terence Nicholas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gijsbert ter Kruimer in the 76th minute of play forced Santos FC's goalkeeper Aaron Smallwood to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Aaron Smallwood made an important save on a dangerous shot by Gustaaf Groeneveldt in the 80th minute. 82 minutes into the match, Santos FC's goalkeeper Aaron Smallwood had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Gustaaf Groeneveldt. When the match had gone on for 86 minutes, Gustaaf Groeneveldt put it in 2-1 from a short distance just to the right of Aaron Smallwood. Terence Nicholas recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 91st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. With an all-out effort, Netherlands's Aaron Smallwood threw himself towards the right post 93 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Gijsbert ter Kruimer, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Egbert Nijveldt kicked well hit freekick during the 95th minute of the match. Santos FC were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of Netherlands for a fine match.
