Flavio Vittori made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Filomeno Montrell in the 15th minute of play. 18 minutes into the match, Italy's goal looked a bit too open when Augusto Cordario came free, but Flavio Vittori reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Erwin Huygens didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Zaccheo Andolina went, in the 25th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. After a rather tough play, Velez Sarsfield's Arnoldo Mel got a free kick in the 38th minute. Javier Pinola hit a great freekick 45 minutes into the match. Velez Sarsfield's Erwin Huygens proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 46th minute of the match, managed to save Velez Sarsfield from getting a goal against them. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Augusto Cordario to make the kick off. In the 52nd minute Zaccheo Andolina shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Erwin Huygens saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 54th minute, Gaston Ávila hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Italy's attentive Siricio Liotta managed to snatch the ball when Arnoldo Mel made a throw-in in the 62nd minute of the game. In the 62nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Velez Sarsfield's goalkeeper Erwin Huygens, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 62 minutes into the game, Zaccheo Andolina cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-1. Erwin Huygens was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Zaccheo Andolina scored 3-1 in the 65th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Erwin Huygens, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After 69 played minutes Velez Sarsfield got a freekick which was hit by Gaston Ávila. The audience thought a goal was coming when Augusto Cordario got free with Flavio Vittori in the 70th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a rather tough play, Italy's Deodato Magliozzi got a free kick in the 71st minute. When Augusto Cordario came up free with the goalie in the 76th minute, the Velez Sarsfield fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Augusto Cordario couldn't finish the play. Velez Sarsfield made a substitution. Yiyo Bernal replaced Marcos Pacifico. If Zaccheo Andolina had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 85th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Italy's Guiscardo Davide was substituted for Sigfrido Auletta. 92 minutes into the match, Adriano Curto had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Erwin Huygens. Velez Sarsfield's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Adriano Curto was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 4-1.
