The audience thought a goal was coming when Gustaaf Groeneveldt got free with Aurelio Di Luca in the 35th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Aurelio Di Luca made a fantastic save in the 41st minute, when Gustaaf Groeneveldt sent off a good shot on target. In the 46th minute, Lars Meesters got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Gijsbert ter Kruimer stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Er Didia received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 56th minute. Arnout Reekers tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Sergio Sandalio kicked well hit freekick during the 57th minute of the match. Aurelio Di Luca took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The Atletico San Jacopino fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Aurelio Di Luca should have stopped the shot. Atletico San Jacopino's Anselmo Moretta was substituted for Fernando Mesquita. If David Eikelkamp had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 90th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nik Tjæder in the 93rd minute of play forced Netherlands's goalkeeper Arnout Reekers to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Through an outstanding action, after 95 minutes, Arnout Reekers successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Netherlands fans cheered their team off the field, for while Atletico San Jacopino had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
