The audience thought a goal was coming when Marcelo Delgado got free with Casper Claes in the 14th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Bernardo Paublo didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Edward Vanderstraeten went, in the 21st minute, to the upper right corner, 1-2 was the resulting score. In the 25th minute Yves Dervaux shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bernardo Paublo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Edward Vanderstraeten might have been able to make a better finish in the 36th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Bernardo Paublo. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Edward Vanderstraeten ran back to his position shaking his head. Bernardo Paublo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Edward Vanderstraeten in the 36th minute of play. Marcelo Delgado came free with the goalkeeper in the 40th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Casper Claes could save by the left post. In the 41st minute of the match Gallito Pisador CDM got a corner. Belgium's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. In the 43rd minute Edward Vanderstraeten shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bernardo Paublo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 46 minutes into the match, Belgium's goalkeeper Casper Claes had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Marcelo Delgado. Julio Roca in the 47thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The Belgium fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Casper Claes should have stopped the shot. Casper Claes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Marcelo Delgado, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The teams fought very hard right up to the final whistle. Both sets of players were happy to go away with a draw.
