In the 12th minute of the match Matthias Vrijdags sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Gordon Banks skillfully saved the ball. Ragnar Söderström hit a great freekick 13 minutes into the match. With a little luck, FC Stadtclub's Arnold Steward got control of the ball when Stefan Broman tried to sneak it across the goal line. Yannick Walpert kicked well hit freekick during the 21st minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Beat Hagenbuch in the 22nd minute of play forced Hammarby Sjöstad IF's goalkeeper Gordon Banks to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to FC Stadtclub getting a freekick after 27 minutes play. Matthias Vrijdags hit a great ball. In the 28th minute, Hammarby Sjöstad IF's Bernt Bergqvist ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Arnold Steward. Arnold Steward yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-1. In the 31st match minute, Hammarby Sjöstad IF was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bernt Bergqvist to maneuver through the defense. In the 36th minute Beat Hagenbuch shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gordon Banks saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Arnold Steward showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Stefan Broman, who was totally free with the ball in the 39th minute. Romero Affolter sent away a hard shot on goal in the 42nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Bernt Bergqvist fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Arnold Steward having to interfere.

The wind increased when Bernt Bergqvist made the kick off in the second half. Arnold Steward showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Stefan Broman in the 51st minute of the match. Hammarby Sjöstad IF's Bernt Bergqvist got a good chance for a goal in the 54th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Gordon Banks showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Beat Hagenbuch, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. After a defensive mix-up in FC Stadtclub's zone, Bernt Bergqvist stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Arnold Steward came out of the goal and Bernt Bergqvist tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Horatio Tobler sent away a hard shot on goal in the 60th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Gordon Banks took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Romero Affolter, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 68 minutes into the match, Hammarby Sjöstad IF's Stefan Broman sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Arnold Steward narrowly saved just below the crossbar. A collision led to Hammarby Sjöstad IF getting a freekick after 74 minutes play. Bengt Bengtsson hit a great ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Tobias Caron during the 76th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, FC Stadtclub's Tobias Caron got a free kick in the 76th minute. After 78 played minutes FC Stadtclub got a freekick which was hit by Beat Hagenbuch. Bernt Bergqvist fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 81st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Arnold Steward having to interfere. 86 minutes into the match, Hammarby Sjöstad IF's goalkeeper Gordon Banks had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Romero Affolter. 87 minutes into the game, Beat Hagenbuch recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Gordon Banks. Beat Hagenbuch showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-2. Hammarby Sjöstad IF's Sonny Forssberg got a good chance for a goal in the 92nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Arnold Steward made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bernt Bergqvist in the 94th minute of play. The FC Stadtclub players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
