Arnold Steward was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 10 minutes into the match, FC Stadtclub's goal looked a bit too open when Matias Bilintx came free, but Arnold Steward reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Óscar Cordoba made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Horatio Tobler in the 14th minute of play. Óscar Cordoba showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Horatio Tobler in the 14th minute of the match. In the 16th minute, FC Stadtclub's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Saturnino Curcio fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. In the 18th minute the ball was on its way in behind Sporting de Gijón's goalkeeper Óscar Cordoba, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 23rd minute, Sporting de Gijón's Matias Bilintx ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Arnold Steward. Arnold Steward yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 3-0. Matias Bilintx in the 27thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Arnold Steward, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. FC Stadtclub's Arnold Steward proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 28th minute of the match, managed to save FC Stadtclub from getting a goal against them. A collision led to FC Stadtclub getting a freekick after 30 minutes play. Horatio Tobler hit a great ball. FC Stadtclub's Arnold Steward proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 31st minute of the match, managed to save FC Stadtclub from getting a goal against them. An unexpectedly hard shot by Horatio Tobler in the 32nd minute of play forced Sporting de Gijón's goalkeeper Óscar Cordoba to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Matias Bilintx had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the match had gone on for 38 minutes, Matias Bilintx took a quick shot and it went in 4-0 without a chance for Arnold Steward to make any attempt to save it. Óscar Cordoba came out of the goal in the 43rd minute to try and stop a shot by FC Stadtclub's Horatio Tobler. But to his dismay, Horatio Tobler quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-1. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 4-1.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Matias Bilintx was the one to do the kick off. Arnold Steward took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Diego Maradona, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Arnold Steward stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Matias Bilintx's shot from short distance in the 55th minute. The audience was convinced that Matias Bilintx's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Arnold Steward was relentless in the 56th minute of the game. A collision led to Sporting de Gijón getting a freekick after 62 minutes play. Carlo Crema hit a great ball. In the 63rd minute, Beat Hagenbuch got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Óscar Cordoba showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Beat Hagenbuch in the 64th minute of the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Matias Bilintx in the 68th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Arnold Steward saved FC Stadtclub from getting behind. When Sporting de Gijón's Matias Bilintx in the 70th minute got a chance for a shot 70th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye FC Stadtclub's goalie prevented a goal. 71 minutes into the match, FC Stadtclub's goal looked a bit too open when Saturnino Curcio came free, but Arnold Steward reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Matias Bilintx received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 72nd minute. Arnold Steward tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 75thth minute of the game Matias Bilintx who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but FC Stadtclub's Arnold Steward was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After a rather tough play, Sporting de Gijón's Rune Fanström got a free kick in the 75th minute. Sporting de Gijón made a substitution. Atilano Feo replaced Carlo Crema. After 76 played minutes Sporting de Gijón got a freekick which was hit by Rune Fanström. When the match clock showed 82 minutes, the score became 5-1 when Matias Bilintx sped through FC Stadtclub's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Arnold Steward. 86 minutes had been played when some careless play by FC Stadtclub's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Gabriel Diaz was slow to take the kick. During this time Sporting de Gijón's players had a chance to rest. The goalkeeper smacked the ball away after a great corner, but Venancio Emesto advanced and headed the ball into goal, 6-1 in the 86th minute. In the 90thth minute of the game Matias Bilintx who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but FC Stadtclub's Arnold Steward was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. When the match clock showed 93 minutes, the score became 7-1 when Venancio Emesto sped through FC Stadtclub's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Arnold Steward. Sporting de Gijón's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
