After 13 minutes of play, Netherlands's Wim Wilmes made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Sαηgrε Azuɭ's Luciano Ferran played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Wim Wilmes in the 15th minute of play. Arnout Reekers made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ur Cabral in the 17th minute of play. 19 minutes into the match, Sαηgrε Azuɭ's goal looked a bit too open when Wim Wilmes came free, but Luciano Ferran reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Wim Wilmes in the 21st minute of play forced Sαηgrε Azuɭ's goalkeeper Luciano Ferran to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ur Cabral got free with Arnout Reekers in the 24th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Luciano Ferran took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Wim Wilmes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 27 minutes into the game, Wim Wilmes cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. The Sαηgrε Azuɭ fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Luciano Ferran should have stopped the shot. In the 40th minute Adrian Orzaize shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Arnout Reekers saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Arnout Reekers showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Adrian Orzaize, who was totally free with the ball in the 44th minute. After a rather tough play, Netherlands's Egbert Nijveldt got a free kick in the 46th minute. After recieving a nice pass, Sαηgrε Azuɭ's Jonas Ordono tried to score from far away in the 47th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Gijsbert ter Kruimer made a kick off. Lionel-Andrés Messias's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Arnout Reekers read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 54th minute of play. In the 59th minute Adrian Orzaize shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Arnout Reekers saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Luciano Ferran showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gustaaf Groeneveldt, who was totally free with the ball in the 63rd minute. Lionel-Andrés Messias sent away a hard shot on goal in the 70th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.
