Egemen Servet came out of the goal and Porziano Marchitelli tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 37 minutes into the match, Italy's goal looked a bit too open when Silverio Fiz came free, but Flavio Vittori reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With 42 minutes on the clock, Sostene Vitulli commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. Sostene Vitulli kicked well hit freekick during the 42nd minute of the match. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

If Paşa Ali Karahan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead.
