Florida Gulf Coast's Luis Nardo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gustaaf Groeneveldt in the 18th minute of play. 18 minutes into the game, Netherlands's Gustaaf Groeneveldt nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Luis Nardo made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Gijsbert ter Kruimer fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luis Nardo having to interfere. A collision led to Florida Gulf Coast getting a freekick after 31 minutes play. Jem Makaronas hit a great ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Lukáš Katačić got free with Arnout Reekers in the 36th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Kees Mooiweer got a throw-in 40 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Gijsbert ter Kruimer. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

The wind increased when Gijsbert ter Kruimer made the kick off in the second half. The supporters of Netherlands booed when Florida Gulf Coast was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 51 match minutes in a wonderful position. John James didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 52nd minute of the match, Gijsbert ter Kruimer tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Luis Nardo saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. With an all-out effort, Netherlands's Luis Nardo threw himself towards the right post 67 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Gijsbert ter Kruimer, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. If Wim Wilmes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 69th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Luis Nardo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gijsbert ter Kruimer, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Netherlands's Gustaaf Groeneveldt got a good chance for a goal in the 76th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Gustaaf Groeneveldt sent away a hard shot on goal in the 88th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. With an all-out effort, Netherlands's Luis Nardo threw himself towards the right post 93 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Gijsbert ter Kruimer, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Geronimo Bonadona hit a great freekick 95 minutes into the match. Wim Wilmes could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 96th minute of the match, but Luis Nardo made a huge save.
