The crowd rose to their feet as Paulo Godoi kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Wilson Amorim. That made the score 1-0 in the 13 minute of play. In the 17th minute Caetano Moreira shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Allan Varela saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Portugal's Wilson Amorim proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 19th minute of the match, managed to save Portugal from getting a goal against them. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Wilson Amorim prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Paulo Godoi to make the kick off. The audience thought a goal was coming when Felipe Barreto got free with Allan Varela in the 52nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Palestra do Interior's Allan Varela played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bartolomeu Dias in the 92nd minute of play. The supporters of Palestra do Interior booed when Portugal was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 95 match minutes in a wonderful position. Daniel Pimentel didn't get a good kick on the ball.
