With his leg Tommy Kahn managed to avoid a goal in the 12thth minute, when ᗩɦmeɗo ᎥᏦᎥ Göȥüm's Bobby Moths fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Thoralf Banke took the ball and in the 13 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Tommy Kahn. Tommy Kahn dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-0. Tommy Kahn showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Zhou Xiang Li, who was totally free with the ball in the 18th minute. In the 21st minute Frank Sachs shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but René Higuita saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 22 minutes into the match, Germany's goalkeeper Tommy Kahn had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Thoralf Banke. The supporters of Germany booed when ᗩɦmeɗo ᎥᏦᎥ Göȥüm was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 28 match minutes in a wonderful position. Thoralf Banke didn't get a good kick on the ball. Zhou Xiang Li's late challenge caught a Germany's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ulrich Stein took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 47th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for René Higuita. ᗩɦmeɗo ᎥᏦᎥ Göȥüm's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

Tommy Kahn made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Zhou Xiang Li in the 51st minute of play. Homer Behnert scored 3-0 in the 53rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Tommy Kahn, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Tommy Kahn took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Bobby Moths, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 67 played minutes, ᗩɦmeɗo ᎥᏦᎥ Göȥüm's Baba Babayaro shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Tommy Kahn came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in ᗩɦmeɗo ᎥᏦᎥ Göȥüm reached it.
