Arnout Reekers made an important save on a dangerous shot by Edson Ribeiro in the 14th minute. After some careless play in the Grêmio Prudente defense, Gijsbert ter Kruimer kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Quinto Fonticoba. The Grêmio Prudente fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Quinto Fonticoba should have stopped the shot. With a little luck, Netherlands's Arnout Reekers got control of the ball when Edson Ribeiro tried to sneak it across the goal line. Gijsbert ter Kruimer recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 43rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal.

In the 51st minute, Lucrețiu Grigore ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Arnout Reekers was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-2. In the 64th minute of the match, Gustaaf Groeneveldt got a very nice opportunity to score, but Quinto Fonticoba was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Arnout Reekers made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Vicente Pedroso in the 66th minute of play. Quinto Fonticoba made an important save on a dangerous shot by Gustaaf Groeneveldt in the 69th minute. After 71 minutes, André Stolesbjerg mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Grêmio Prudente and the Netherlands players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 90th minute Lucrețiu Grigore shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Arnout Reekers saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Egbert Nijveldt lost his temper 92 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 91st minute of the game. One of Netherlands:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Grêmio Prudente:s goal. After 95 played minutes Grêmio Prudente got a freekick which was hit by Nicolas Mendes.
