Frank Sachs was slow to take the kick. During this time Germany's players had a chance to rest. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dadá Madureira in the 43rd minute of play forced Germany's goalkeeper Tommy Kahn to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 47th minute Dadá Madureira shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tommy Kahn saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.
