Markus Pflüger came out of the goal and Gijsbert ter Kruimer tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Markus Pflüger was a little too slow when Gustaaf Groeneveldt got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 74th minute. The score was now 0-2. Wim Wilmes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 81st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The audience thought a goal was coming when Gustaaf Groeneveldt got free with Markus Pflüger in the 84th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Sílvio Costa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Netherlands were awarded a corner in the 90th minute after Du Esporte Clube's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Gijsbert ter Kruimer took the corner. The audience thought a goal was coming when Gustaaf Groeneveldt got free with Markus Pflüger in the 95th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort.
