The corner ended in Gijsbert ter Kruimer almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Internacional's Geronimo Rulli did a great save. Arnout Reekers took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Laércio de Andrade, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 15th match minute, Internacional was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Michael Laudrup to maneuver through the defense. Gijsbert ter Kruimer took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 17th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Geronimo Rulli. Internacional's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Laércio de Andrade fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Arnout Reekers having to interfere. A hard shot 23 in the game by Ariel Vidal from a close distance when the talented Arnout Reekers managed to make a qualified save. Netherlands's players were relieved. Geronimo Rulli showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wim Wilmes, who was totally free with the ball in the 28th minute. In a very dangerous position, a player in Netherlands fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 30th minute. Penalty! Kees Mooiweer charged in rather forcefully in the 42nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Kees Mooiweer the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, Netherlands's Kees Mooiweer got a free kick in the 42nd minute. Laércio de Andrade made in the 45th minute of the game a sloppy throw-in which Rafael Abarca however managed to control.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Ariel Vidal made a kick off. Geronimo Rulli made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Wim Wilmes in the 50th minute of play. Laércio de Andrade scored 2-1 in the 53rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Arnout Reekers, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 56 minutes into the match, Netherlands's Lars Meesters sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Geronimo Rulli narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Gustaaf Groeneveldt came free with the goalkeeper in the 66th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Geronimo Rulli could save by the left post. Internacional's Geronimo Rulli proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 68th minute of the match, managed to save Internacional from getting a goal against them. Arnout Reekers didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Laércio de Andrade went, in the 73rd minute, to the upper right corner, 3-1 was the resulting score. Internacional's Ege Deniz was substituted for Rafael Abarca. A collision led to Netherlands getting a freekick after 88 minutes play. Kees Mooiweer hit a great ball. In the 93rd minute, Ariel Vidal ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Arnout Reekers was frozen by the shot and now it was 4-1.
