After having played for 22 minutes, Romulo Guerrero managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Godoy Cruz's supporters crossed their fingers, but Romulo Guerrero was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Romulo Guerrero in the 24th minute of play forced Washington's goalkeeper Theodore McNamara to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. But to his dismay, Shamus McGlynn quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. Conan Barrett received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 45th minute. Natalio Ricart tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.

Godoy Cruz's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Washington the free kick. Washington were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of Godoy Cruz for a fine match.
