Vaggelis Mitsiou started the match with the kick off. AEK S.C's Thanasis Koltsidas played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gustaaf Groeneveldt in the 4th minute of play. Donzel Goyeneta who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 8thth minute tested the skills of Arnout Reekers when he managed to save the team from getting behind. A collision led to AEK S.C getting a freekick after 11 minutes play. Alfaro Meo hit a great ball. The supporters of Netherlands booed when AEK S.C was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 19 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rodrigo Hats didn't get a good kick on the ball. A sloppy throw-in by Sakis Tavlaridis in the 24th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Netherlands's Wim Wilmes. Thanasis Koltsidas showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Wim Wilmes in the 25th minute of the match. 28 minutes into the match, AEK S.C's goal looked a bit too open when Gijsbert ter Kruimer came free, but Thanasis Koltsidas reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 38th minute Wim Wilmes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Thanasis Koltsidas saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Arnout Reekers showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Vaggelis Mitsiou, who was totally free with the ball in the 44th minute. After 45 played minutes Netherlands got a freekick which was hit by Egbert Nijveldt. When the match had gone on for 46 minutes, Vaggelis Mitsiou took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Arnout Reekers to make any attempt to save it. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Gijsbert ter Kruimer to make the kick off. Donzel Goyeneta scored 2-0 in the 53rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Arnout Reekers, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Thanasis Koltsidas was out of position in the 62 minute of play, and Gijsbert ter Kruimer capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Gijsbert ter Kruimer really showed his touch with that goal: 2-1. Arnout Reekers showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Vaggelis Mitsiou, who was totally free with the ball in the 65th minute. Arnout Reekers took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Vaggelis Mitsiou, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Vaggelis Mitsiou in the 69th minute of play forced Netherlands's goalkeeper Arnout Reekers to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Rodrigo Hats hit a great freekick 78 minutes into the match. AEK S.C made a substitution. Kevin Carreira replaced Sakis Tavlaridis. AEK S.C made a substitution. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. AEK S.C had won after a very even match.
