With an extended leg and a bit of luck Alfons Sjö prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When the match clock showed 9 minutes, the score became 0-1 when Zaccheo Andolina sped through Garsås IF's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Alfons Sjö. An unexpectedly hard shot by Zaccheo Andolina in the 11th minute of play forced Garsås IF's goalkeeper Alfons Sjö to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 15 minutes into the match, Sven-Ove Stål had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Flavio Vittori. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Zaccheo Andolina made a kick off. Alfons Sjö showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Zaccheo Andolina, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. It was Siricio Liotta who took care of the corner kick. The corner led Italy's Siricio Liotta to fire away a dangerous shot which Alfons Sjö despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Alfons Sjö was a little too slow when Adriano Curto got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 92nd minute. The score was now 1-3.
